The Project

Broadsound Solar Farm and Battery is located on Barada Kabalbara Yetimarala People land in Central Queensland’s Renewable Energy Zone, approximately 150 km northwest of Rockhampton.

The 377 MWdc Solar Farm will comprise of 610,000 solar panels over an area of approximately 900 ha.

In addition, a 180MW / 360MWh Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) will be installed and connected to the project substation.  The project will be grid connected at Powerlink’s existing Broadsound substation.

New entranceways will be created on Marlborough Sarina Road and there will be access tracks created inside the project area for construction and operational activities.

A temporary construction camp has been constructed on site to accommodate up to 400 workers during the construction phase.

The project has received Development Approval from Isaac Regional Council and received a ‘not a controlled action’ referral decision under the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999.

Construction works for the project began in early 2024.
