Mullion Creek Wind Farm

The Mullion Creek Wind Farm Prospect (the Prospect) is about 20 km north of Orange (NSW) on Wiradjuri country. If approved, it would be built in the Forestry Corporation of New South Wales’s (Forestry Corporation) Mullions Range softwood pine plantation, in Cabonne and Dubbo Regional Councils.

The Investigation Permit was awarded to Iberdrola Australia in May 2024, allowing us to carry out a series of feasibility activities. If the Prospect is deemed feasible, we will continue to develop the project and obtain the necessary planning and grid approvals. This is expected to take up to six years.

Community Consultation

In August and September we held six community drop in sessions in Spring Hill, Millthorpe, Molong and Mullion Creek. We welcomed around 150 people at the sessions.

We also attended the Orange Sustainability Living Expo, the Australian National Field Days and have met with a number of key stakeholders such as the Orange Local Land Council, and project neighbours.

This engagement helps us identify concerns which will be considered in the design phase, understand what is important to stakeholders, identify potential benefits, and collect information for the Social Impact Assessment.

Field Studies

We have completed the preliminary aviation, ecology and heritage studies needed to help us select the best location for the met mast and lidar. We expect to install these by early 2025.

The met mast and lidar monitor wind and weather conditions at different heights. This data is vital to accurately determine wind speeds, direction, and other weather parameters at sites.

Applications for the first round of early community sponsorships and grants will be advertised soon, and will include information on how to apply.

Grant amounts of $1,000 to $5,000 are available for local groups, clubs, schools and organisations in neighbouring towns.
