Aurora Green powered by purpose

May 2025

Iberdrola Australia has a twenty-year history developing renewable energy nationally, firstly as Infigen Energy and since 2020 as part of the Iberdrola global group. The Iberdrola group has deep knowledge and proven experience in offshore wind, supporting our local Australian team in leading practice for our proposed Aurora Green offshore wind development. Aurora Green is located 25km+ off the coastline between Seaspray/The Honeysuckles and Woodside Beach in Gippsland.

We have offshore wind farms in the UK, Germany, and France, with more developing in the US and UK. This includes our East Anglia Hub, made up of four wind farms, three of which are in the development or construction stage. Construction started in 2017 for the 714MW East Anglia ONE offshore wind farm in the UK’s North Sea with energy generation in 2020, creating almost 3500 construction jobs and 100 ongoing jobs. Most employees come from within 35 kilometres of East Anglia (Suffolk County, England). $4 billion AUD was invested in the project with 102 turbines powering around 630,000 British homes.

We aim to create lasting local benefits from our projects through education. At East Anglia, a local apprenticeship program was created and sponsoring of students undertaking Masters studies. For Aurora Green, Iberdrola Australia has partnered with Federation University to provide 6-8 scholarships every year supporting Gippsland students for the next decade. The first recipients will be awarded scholarships this month!

The Aurora Green team is further supporting local education organisations and providers including Baw Baw Latrobe Local Learning Employment Network and Gippsland Technical School.
